Turkmen President in talks with Qatar over TAPI pipeline development
Turkmenistan is considering turning to Qatar for financial and technical help with the development of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced after a meeting with Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani in Doha this week. “Qatar’s experience in this sphere will be very useful for our dynamic economy,” he said.
Construction of the 214-km Turkmen section of the pipeline, that will eventually transport natural gas from Turkmenistan’s reserves in the Caspian Sea via Afghanistan and Pakistan into India, began in December 2015. Its annual capacity is ultimately expected to reach 33 bcm.
