Canned vegetable producers reap benefits from Russian import ban

Canned food russiaCanned vegetable producers are emerging as one of the winners from the ban on EU food imports that Russia introduced in retaliation to the sanctions imposed by the west after the annexation of Crimea. France’s processed food supplier Bonduelle has reported that Russian sales in the second half of the year were “extremely high”, while the domestic suppliers Ruspole (owners of the Uncle Vanya and Corrado brands), Pomidorprom (Ogo) and Ecoproduct reported increased sales of 65%, 40-45% and 25% respectively. The trend was confirmed by retailer Dixie’s representative Catherine Kumanin. “This kind of growth is typical for several categories of food including ready meals, green peas, corn and both pickled and salted vegetables,” she said.
