Frequency of Zhengzhou-Hamburg freight train services set to double

Zhengzhou-Hamburg routeThe number of freight trains traveling between the capital of China’s Henan province Zhengzhou and the German city of Hamburg will double in 2017, according to a senior official with the state-run Zhengzhou International Hub Development and Construction Company that has been running the 10,214km service since 2013.
With almost every major industrial Chinese region within a 1,500km radius of the Henan capital, Zhengzhou has become a major transport hub and one of the country’s most significant logistics channels to Europe, its Vice President Yang Wenjun said this week, and its trains have made 150 trips between the two cities and transported 60,000 tons of goods so far this year.
Zhenzhou to Hamburg trainFreight trains are also becoming increasingly popular as they can transport more goods more cheaply than by air and are quicker and more direct than the maritime alternative. 
China is the European Union’s second-largest trading partner, with trade between the two amounting to €467.2bn last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce. Overall, 1,058 freight trains made the journey from China to Europe between January and October, and last month also saw the launch of the 20th recognized train link between the two continents, from Nanchang in Jiangxi to the Dutch port of Rotterdam .
