Gazprom earmarks $1.5bn for Kyrgyz gas infrastructure

Yurt KyrgyzstanKyrgyz gas: Gazprom is set to invest $1.5 bn in Kyrgyzstan’s gas infrastructure over the next 15 years, it announced yesterday. Following high level talks in Bishkek, around one third of the sum is to be invested within the next two years in a bid to increase the proportion of the country receiving gas from 20% to 60%.
In 2013 Gazprom paid a nominal $1 for Kyrgyzstan’s natural gas network and a promise to invest billions of roubles in an upgrade of the country’s gas infrastructure after a winter in which gas supplies had been repeatedly interrupted because of the government’s inability to pay transportation fees to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
