Iranian exports to Russia to soar as Tehran bids to take over from Ankara

Iranian business magnate Asadollah AsgaroladiIranian exports to Russia: Iran plans to increase its exports to Russia from $500m to $2bn in the new Iranian fiscal year that starts next week, the business magnate and member of the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Asadollah Asgarolad said yesterday. A large proportion of the increase in trade would probably be in the agricultural sector, he predicted, as Iran moves to fill the trade gap that has opened up since relations between Ankara and Moscow began deteriorating after a Russian jet was shot down over Syria last November.
Last year, nearly 20% of Russia’s vegetable imports came from Turkey with an estimated total value of $1bn before Moscow slapped an embargo on a range of products and foodstuffs, including fresh fruits, vegetables, poultry and salt.
