Chinese investment in Russia’s Far East now accounts for 45% of all FDI in Khabarovsk and is behind more than 300 enterprises operating there, the Territory’s authorities announced this week. Chinese businesses have been investing in trade, catering, construction, wood processing and exploration work, it said, with moves also under way to develop an assembly plant for a Chinese heavy duty Howo truck in Komsomolsk.
8,253km east of Moscow, the city of Khabarovsk is on the Trans-Siberian Railway, and therefore has strategic significance for China’s plans to develop a high-speed train link as a northern transport spur of its One Belt One Road initiative.
