Iranian brownfield oil sites: Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh today unveiled plans to offer new oil contracts to foreign companies as early as this September if an agreement is reached over his country’s nuclear programme and sanctions are lifted. European and US oil companies would be welcome to participate in Iran’s upstream industry, he said, after holding talks with senior executives from Shell, Total, Eni and Lukoil on the fringes of last week’s OPEC meeting in Vienna. US companies would be particularly valued because of their superior technology, he noted, even though he did not meet with representatives from ExxonMobil, Chevron or ConocoPhillips who were also present in Vienna. The oil fields likely to be up for discussion are brownfields sites such as Gachsaran, Maroun, Bibi Hakimeh and Pazanan.
