North Korea has offered Russia copper from its Onsong deposit in exchange for electricity, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East has revealed. “The Korean side proposed that Russia consider supplying electricity to the areas of Rason, Chongjin and Tanchon as well as the Wonsan-Mount Kumgang international tourism zone, with the costs …. covered by copper ore from the Onsong deposit in North Hamgyong Province,” the ministry announced by way of a press release.
The proposal was discussed at a meeting of the Russia-North Korea intergovernmental commission that was held in Pyongyang last month, and the two countries are 
expected to create a special working group to study the feasibility of Russia supplying electricity to the Korean peninsula.
