Russian tourist industry boosted by weak rouble as numbers hit 2008 level

Chinese tourist in RussiaRussian tourist industry: the weakened rouble has helped Russia attract the most overseas visitors it has seen since 2008. According to Russian Tourism Industry Union there was a 13% year-on-year increase in trips by overseas visitors the first nine months of 2016, taking the total to a seven-year high of 2.54 million.
Chinese tourists topped the list of visitors and accounted for 22.9% of the total followed by travellers from Germany (12.6%), the US (6%) and Turkey (4.6%).
