Russian watchdog slaps ban on Western washing powders

washing powderRussia’s consumer-safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor this week announced that it was slapping a ban on the sale of some Western washing powders and detergents, including brands owned by Procter & Gamble, Colgate Palmolive and Henkel on safety grounds.
In a statement on its website, the watchdog said that a probe into household cleaning goods produced by these and several other Western companies had shown up violations of toxicological safety requirements and that the batches involved had been withdrawn from sale.
Henkel spokeswoman Natalia Ovakimian insisted that the company  it had not received any notification from Rospotrebnadzor and that all its products had passed toxicological checks in Russia and had a state certificate of safety.“We are trying to find out what’s going on and deciding on our next steps,” she said.
