Trans Caspian transport consortium to operate TITR from China to Europe

Trans Caspian transport routeAt a meeting in Istanbul last week, major transport and logistics operators from Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia agreed to set up a Trans Caspian transport consortium to carry goods from China to Europe along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
Founder members of the consortium are likely to be Kazakhstan Railway subsidiary KTZ Express, the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (CJSC), Azerbaijan’s Caravan Logistics, Georgian Railway subsidiary Trans Caucasus Terminals and China’s Minshgeng Logistics, with Turkey participating as an associate member.
The consortium will start transporting cargo from China to Turkey and Europe via Georgia as well as to Northern and Eastern Europe via Ukraine. The 4,766km long multimodal TITR is eventually expected to have an annual capacity of 27.5m tons of containerized cargo and to be able transport up to 300,000 TEU by 2020.
